The label is just the filename — what went wrong?

What this solves: Recognizing a silent extraction failure in Read Documents mode.

Quick answer: If Read Documents can’t read a file — corrupt PDF, unrecognizable image, encrypted content — ExhibitPro silently falls back to the filename (in ALL CAPS) instead of an error. If you expected a content-based title and got a filename, that’s the signal to regenerate, edit, or replace the file.

What to do:

  1. Check the file directly. Can you open it and read it in a normal PDF viewer?
  2. If the PDF is scanned/image-only, make sure the scan is legible; poor scans OCR poorly.
  3. Password-protected/encrypted PDFs can’t be read in Read Documents mode — switch to Filenames mode or remove the password.
  4. Re-generate the failing labels, or click the pencil on that label and edit the text directly.
  5. If the file is genuinely corrupt, re-export or re-scan it and re-upload.
